What is the difference between Independent and Shared Quantity?

The Quantity Type determines how the stock quantity is managed when a Stock Item is assigned to multiple properties.

There are two options:

  • Independent Qty — each property has its own stock quantity.

  • Shared Qty — multiple properties use the same stock quantity.

Important: Choose the Quantity Type carefully when creating the Stock Item. The selected Quantity Type applies to all assigned properties and cannot be changed later.

  • Independent Qty

Choose Independent Qty when each property manages its stock separately. Each property has its own available quantity, and changes made to one property's stock do not affect the stock of other properties.

Example

Suppose you have a Baby Crib Stock Item:

Property

Available Quantity

Property A

5

Property B

8

Property A has 5 Baby Crib, while Property B has 8 Baby Crib.

If you add 2 Baby Crib to Property A:

Property

Available Quantity

Property A

7

Property B

8

Only Property A's quantity changes. Property B remains at 8.

  • Shared Qty

Choose Shared Qty when multiple properties use the same stock pool.Instead of assigning a separate quantity to each property, you set one total available quantity that is shared by all assigned properties.

Example :

Suppose three properties share a total of 20 Additional Breakfast:

Property

Shared Stock

Property A

20

Property B

20

Property C

20

The 20 is the total shared stock, not 20 Additional Breakfast for each property.

If Property A reserves 5 Additional Breakfast, the remaining shared quantity becomes 15.

Shared Stock

Remaining Quantity

Initial quantity

20

Reserved by Property A

-5

Remaining

15

The remaining 15 Additional Breakfast are then available to the properties sharing that stock.

What is the difference between Independent Quantity and Shared Quantity?

Independent Qty

Shared Qty

Stock quantity

Separate for each property

One quantity shared by all assigned properties

Quantity setup

Set quantity per property

Set one shared quantity

Stock update

Affects the selected property

Affects all active properties sharing the stock

Best for

Properties with separate inventory

Properties using the same stock pool

Important: The Quantity Type selected when creating the Stock Item cannot be changed later.

What happens when stock is updated?

The main difference is how the stock change affects other properties:

Independent Qty

Shared Qty

Stock quantity

Separate for each property

One shared quantity

Property A changes stock

Only Property A is affected

All properties share the updated quantity

Property B's quantity

Managed separately

Uses the same stock pool

Best for

Separate inventories

Shared inventory
