Recommended Tablet & Device Guide

Written by Delta HQ Support Team

Delta Self Check-in is a service that allows guests to check in themselves using a tablet installed at the property.

To ensure that guests can check in smoothly on site, we recommend setting up the tablet as a dedicated self check-in device.

Why Are Certain Devices Recommended?

Delta Self Check-in is a web-based service, so it will generally work on many tablets that support a current web browser.

However, simply being able to display a web page is not enough for self check-in.

For example, a guest may accidentally:

  • Close the browser

  • Return to the home screen

  • Open another app

  • Open another website

  • Change the device settings

If this happens, the guest may leave the Delta Self Check-in screen.

For this reason, we recommend using Kiosk Mode or a screen-locking feature to keep Delta Self Check-in displayed as the dedicated screen.

If you use video identity verification, the device’s camera, microphone, and speaker performance, as well as browser compatibility, are also important.

You are not required to use a specific tablet model.

By using the recommended devices and settings below, you can create a more stable self check-in environment.

3 Setups Especially Recommended by Delta

① Standard: iPad

iPad + Guided Access

Our most highly recommended setup.

By using the standard iPad feature Guided Access, you can prevent guests from leaving the Delta Self Check-in screen.

Recommended for:

  • Vacation rentals with one to several rooms

  • Small hotels

  • Properties with one to several tablets

  • Properties that want an easy setup and simple operation

Recommendation: ★★★★★

② Android Tablet

Android Tablet + Kiosk App

When using an Android tablet, we recommend using the device’s screen-pinning feature or a kiosk app.

Some kiosk apps are free, while others are paid.

Paid apps may provide stronger restrictions and make it easier to keep Delta Self Check-in displayed on the screen.

Recommended for:

  • Properties looking to keep initial costs low

  • Properties that want to use an affordable tablet

  • Properties installing only one device

Recommendation: ★★★★☆

Settings and available features vary depending on the Android tablet model. Before purchasing, please confirm that the device supports kiosk operation.

③ Samsung Galaxy Tab

Galaxy Tab + Kiosk / Device Management

Samsung Galaxy Tab devices can use business-oriented device management and kiosk features such as Samsung Knox.

This setup is particularly suitable for managing multiple properties or multiple self check-in devices in one place.

Recommended for:

  • Operators managing multiple properties

  • Operators managing multiple self check-in devices

  • Companies that want to centrally manage their devices

Recommendation: ★★★★★

If you are purchasing and using only one device for personal use, you can also use a standard kiosk app instead of business-oriented device management features such as Knox.

What Is Kiosk Mode?

Kiosk Mode is a feature that allows a tablet to be used as a dedicated device for a specific app or website.

Normal Tablet

Delta Self Check-in

Guest taps the screen

Guest accidentally closes the screen / opens another app

Guest can leave the self check-in screen

Kiosk Mode

Delta Self Check-in

Guest taps the screen

Kiosk Mode is enabled

Guest cannot accidentally close the screen or open another app

Guest cannot leave the self check-in screen

In this way, Kiosk Mode creates an environment where guests cannot easily leave the Delta Self Check-in screen.

Essential Requirements When Choosing a Device

1. Stable Internet Connection

Delta Self Check-in requires an internet connection.

Please prepare a stable network environment, such as the property’s Wi-Fi.

2. Kiosk Mode / Screen Locking

We recommend devices that support at least one of the following:

  • Built-in screen-pinning or screen-locking features

  • Kiosk Mode

  • Kiosk Apps

  • Device management using MDM

It is important to ensure that guests cannot easily leave the Delta Self Check-in screen.

Please check this in advance before installing the device at your property.

3. Sufficient Screen Size

To make the device easy for guests to operate while standing,

we recommend a tablet with a screen size of approximately 10 inches or larger.

4. Continuous Power Supply

Since the self check-in device will be permanently installed at the property, we recommend keeping it connected to a power source at all times.

This helps prevent the device from becoming unavailable due to a depleted battery.

When Using Video Identity Verification

Properties using video identity verification require the following:

  • Camera

  • Microphone

  • Speaker

  • Stable internet connection

In particular, since Delta guest support staff need to see the guest’s face, we recommend a device with a front-facing camera.

Recommended Installation Environment

The installation environment is just as important as the tablet itself.

Recommended

  • A location that is easy for guests to find, such as near the reception area

  • A location with a stable Wi-Fi connection

  • Continuous power supply

  • A tabletop stand or wall-mounted stand

  • A height that is comfortable for guests to operate while standing

  • If using the camera, a location where the guest’s face is well lit

“Can I Only Use the Recommended Devices?”

No.

Delta Self Check-in is a web-based service, so it may also work on devices other than those listed as recommended.

However, tablet specifications vary in terms of:

  • OS

  • Browser

  • Camera

  • Microphone

  • Kiosk functionality

  • Screen-locking functionality

For this reason, Delta will continue to add tested devices and configurations to the list of recommended devices as they are verified.

If you plan to use a device that is not on the recommended list, we recommend testing it before implementation.
